Faith in Action
Trinity’s congregation is highly engaged with its communities — locally and internationally — through its mission and outreach programs. As a charter member of the Association of Faith Communities, Trinity hosts a weekly shelter for homeless individuals, including a prepared hot meal and take-away breakfast, and the opportunity for a hot shower in a portable shower trailer. A series of Fourth Tuesday Luncheons attracts friends from the surrounding neighborhood to enjoy a simple meal, topical speakers, and musical entertainment.
For many years the church has sponsored a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack and made facilities available for their meetings. Meeting space also is used regularly by several addiction recovery groups and a neighborhood exercise class.
A group of church quilters produces colorful quilts that are provided as a welcome gift to children at the Homeless Family Shelter. Support also is provided to local social service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Friends Outside (jail ministry), Court Appointed Special Advocates (services to foster children), and Wings (homeless advocacy and support). Trinity also supports Immanuel House, a refugee ministry in San Jose.
Internationally, the congregation regularly supports the Presbyterian Mission Agency and typically provides support for and interacts with 3-5 Presbyterian missionaries. Trinity also is an active member of Santa Cruz al Salvador, a locally based organization of Lutheran and Presbyterian congregations, and is regularly represented in delegations to work with needy rural communities in El Salvador.
